East
Cape Marine Ltd is primarily a design business, with added
services to complement our design abilities.
Noah
Thompson, the designer and director of East Cape Marine
Ltd formed the business in 2000. Over the last 8 years the
business has grown and changed into a dynamic and flexible
design service. East Cape Marine’s motto is “ Creating
and Innovating” power catamarans and multihulls.
For
the last 8 years our focus has been on smaller planning
power catamarans. Last year we altered direction to grow
into larger work. Our current focus is on larger semi
displacement ferries, game fishers, and coastal cruisers.
On the larger projects over 20m, we contract out
specific design work to engineering firms, composite
engineers, and contract draftsmen. Our working
relationship with other professional allows us to design
projects in access of 30m, while remaining a small and
flexible design business.
Collaborating with other professionals keeps our overheads
low, and we pass the saving onto our customers.
Another
area of growth for East Cape Marine is in our methods for
developing kitset designs. We now have a proven track
record of successfully built composite and aluminium
kitsets. We are constantly refining and innovating new
kitset design methods to make building easier. We
have proven there is no size limit for a kitset design as shown with the 24m kitset for Streamline
Catamarans. We
are currently working on larger kitset concepts for
customers.
This
new growth brings changes to the way East Cape Marine
designs and test new and existing power catamaran hull forms. We have
created a section of the business that will conduct model
building and tow testing. Combined with our research and
program writing over the last 8 years, we now offer
customers a comprehensive in-house hull design and testing
service.
